The Minister of Finance and Economic Planning of the Kingdom of Lesotho Visits BADEA

H. E. Mr. Timothy T. Thahane, Minister of Finance and Development Planning of the Kingdom of Lesotho visited BADEA’s Headquarters in Khartoum during the period 4 - 6 November 2004, upon official request from BADEA .

Official talks commenced between the two parties held at BADEA’s Headquarters. H.E. Mr. Medhat S. Lotfy, the Director General of the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa headed BADEA’s delegation, while H. E. Mr. Timothy T. Thahane Minister of Finance and Development Planning headed the side of Lesotho. Talks covered different aspects of cooperation between Lesotho and BADEA, including on–going projects financed by BADEA in Lesotho, and the prospects of promoting development in Lesotho.
Both sides expressed the importance of consolidating this cooperation within a three-year program (2005-2007), consisting of projects and technical assistance operations, which were considered a priority by the Government.


The Minister also paid a visit to Al- Gezira Scheme and met with the authorities of the scheme and acknowledged with the activities of it.

It is worth-mentioning that the total commitments of BADEA to the Kingdom of Lesotho have reached as of to-date, 58.817 million US dollars for financing 20 development operation. Out of this sum US $ 51.05 million (about 86.8% from total BADEA’s financing to Lesotho), have been allocated to infrastructure sector projects including Maseru International Airport project, Oxbo-Mokhotlong Road Project, the two Maseru Water Supply Projects (Phase I & II), in addition to Maseru Sanitation Project.
