Mr.
Abdelaziz KHELEF assumed his duties as Director General of BADEA effective July
1st 2006. He replaces Mr. Medhat S. Lotfy whose term of office, of nine years,
has come to a close on June 30th, 2006.
Mr. KHELEF’s nomination has been decided by BADEA’s Board of Governors, which
convened during its 31st session held in Rabat, Morocco on April 17th, 2006.
Mr. KHELEF is an Algerian national, an economist by profession who holds a
license in Economic Sciences (Algeria 1966) and a High Diploma in Economic
Sciences (Paris 1968). He has assumed many high-ranking positions in Government
of Algeria, including Minister of Commerce, Minister of Finance, State Secretary
in charge of Maghreb Affairs, Ambassador of Algeria to Tunisia and Secretary
General of the Presidency.
Mr. KHELEF joined the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) in 1994 where he, likewise,
assumed many high-ranking positions including Advisor to the President. His
latest position at IDB was Regional Director for IDB for Northern and Western
Africa.
The term of office of the Director General, according to BADEA’s Rules, is three
years renewable twice. |
