The Board of Directors of the Arab Bank for Economic
Development in Africa (BADEA), in its 2nd meeting in 2005, had
approved the allocation of the sum of USD 370,000 as a grant to finance a
training program in the field of Coordination and Economic Integration for
African Union Commission cadres and some of the Regional Economic Organizations
operating in Africa. This grant was approved in response to a request by the AU
Commission, which comes in line with BADEA's ever increasing attention to
training program since 1997.
The program consists of twin training sessions; one for
Anglo-phones and the other for Franco-phones African countries. Each group will
have 20 participants, and the training will be conducted by IDEP Organization
which is located in Dakar, capital of the Republic of Senegal. The policy of
BADEA is to assign conduction of such training program to Arabic and African
training institutes.
The training for Anglo-phones has already started in Dakar
on October 2nd and will be concluded on November 3rd. The
participants come from different Regional African Organizations namely: 5 from
AU Commission; 4 from COMESA; 4 from IGAD; 3 from SADEC; 2 from ECOWAS, and 2
from Sahel & Sahara Organization. The Francophone training program will be
convened later during the period 13th. Nov to 15th Dec.
2006.
The training program aims at meeting the needs of the AU
Commission and those of the African regional economic organizations in upgrading
the abilities of participants to work for African coordination and economic
integration which are the key elements for economic and social development in
Africa. The training program tackles the theoretical background and the
applications for these issues, and handles the problems and challenges facing
the transformation of the African economy into a healthier one.
Similar training program for 40 participants from AU
Commission were financed by BADEA back in 2004. The first was convened for
Anglo-phones (Jan 19th – Feb 20th), and the other for
Franco-phones (Mar 22nd – Apr 23rd). Both programs were
real success in as much as course contents and program organization were
concerned.
During the period from 1997 to end 2005, BADEA financed 114
training program for the benefit of 2902 African participants with a total cost
of USD 12.156 million. |
