In response to a formal invitation from His Excellency Olusegun
Obasanjo, the President of Federal Republic of Nigeria and a similar one from
His Excellency Alpha Oumar Konare, the Chairperson of the Commission of the
African Union, H.E. Abdelaziz Khelef the Director General of the Arab Bank for
Economic Development in Africa led a BADEA's delegation to the 16th Summit of
the Head of States and Governments Implementation Committee (HSGIC) of the New
Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD), that was held on Feb, 28, 2007, in
Addis Ababa and to the 8th ordinary African Union Summit which was held in Addis
Ababa during the period 29 to 30 January 2007.
The delegation had the opportunity to meet with a number of
African Leaders, namely their Excellencies: the Presidents of Benin, Central
African, Botswana and Uganda. They also met with the Vice Presidents of The
Gambia and of Sierra Leone. The delegation also met with the Prime Ministers of
Ethiopia and Angola, in addition to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the
Republic of Seychelles.
In these side-meetings BADEA's officials discussed and reviewed
matters of mutual interest for better cooperation in the future to fulfill the
objectives of promoting the economic and social development in Africa and
upgrading the standard of living of the African nations.
The Director General of BADEA also met with a number of Heads of
delegations of International and Regional Organizations, these include His
Excellency Donald KABERUKA, the President of African Development Bank (ADB) and
His Excellency Jacques Diouf, Director-General of Food and Agriculture
Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
These meetings were held in the context of the cooperation and
coordination between BADEA and these Organizations for the shared goals of
promoting the economic and social development in African Continent. BADEA's
delegation also met with the acting Commissioner for Economic Affairs for the
African Union. |
