BADEA extends two loans to the Republic of Niger amounting to US $ 7.90 million

 

Two loan agreements of US $ 7.90 million was signed in London on 11/12/2007, between the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA) and the Republic of Niger to finance Rural Development in Dakoro province Project by an amount of US $ 7.50 million dollars and US $ 0.40 million dollar additional loan to finance the Education Sector in the Rural Areas of Wadata and Hamdallay.

The two loans, which are to be reimbursed over a period of 30 years, include a grace period of 10 years and have an annual interest rate of 1%.

The agreements were signing on behalf of BADEA by H.E. Mr. Ahmed Abdullah El AKEIL, Chairman of BADEA Board of Directors, and in the presence of H.E. Mr. Abdelaziz KHELEF the Director General and on behalf of the Republic of Niger by H.E. Mr. Ali Mahaman Lamine Zeine, Minister of Economic and Finance for the Republic of Niger.

The Rural Development in Dakoro province project aims at improving the basic infrastructures for irrigation and rural development and at contribution to the protection of natural resources in the province of Dakoro, which will in turn contribute to improving the living conditions of the population, the sustainable use of various natural resources and the protection of the environment. The project also aims at reducing the tedious household chores of the beneficiary rural women, hence lightening their workload.

The second project of Education Sector in the Rural Areas of Wadata and Hamdallay, aims at developing the quality of education and the conditions in which it is delivered as well as reducing the illiteracy rates by offering inhabitants and students from Wadata and Hamdallay fully equipped and nearby educational infrastructures.
