Project’s Name: Wgadogo- Kongosi Road Project
BADEA’s Financing: A loan in the amount of US $ 10.0 million (representing
33.33% of the total cost) repayable within 30 years, including a grace period of
10 years, and with an annual interest rate of 1%.
Other Co- financiers:
Kuwait Fund US$ 11.70 million (39,00% of the total cost), Opec Fund US$ 7.0
million (23.33% of the total cost) and the Government of Burkina Faso US $ 1.30
million (4.34% of the total cost).
Estimated Project Cost:
The total project cost was estimated (free of taxes and including cofingencies
and price escalation) as US $ 30.00 million, of which US $ 23.97 million is in
foreign currencies (representing 79.9% of the total cost) and US $ 6.03 million
in local currency.
Project Description:
The road connects, the capital Wagadogo with the city of Kongusi, the
administrative capital of “ Bam” province in the north of the country at a
distance of 110 km from Wagadogo.
The Project consists of the following main components:
1- Civil engineering works for the construction of an asphalt road about 110 km
long, and include the following:
- Site preparation and construction of administrative technical and residential
buildings and supply of required equipment and machinery for execution of the
works.
- Clearance of the road alignment from bushes and trees and opening of required
detours for traffic .
- Earth works ( Excavation and filling) .
- Construction of laterite sub-base.
- Construction of 3 asphalt layers on carriage way, two asphalt layers on
passages for motorcycles bicycles and one asphalt layer on the shoulders.
- Construction of two bridges one with a span of about 35 m and the other with a
span of about 65 m.
- Construction of drainage ditch along the road alignment and cross drainage
works.
- Safety Works which include guard rails, road markings and traffic signs.
2- Consultancy Services for review of detailed designs and tender documents,
evaluation of bids and supervision of the execution of the works.
3- Institutional Support which includes service of an expert and training
equipment.
4- Land acquision and shifting of services facilities (water and electricity,
networks etc).
Procurement of Goods and Services:
The firm which will carry out the execution of the civil works will be selected
on the basis of an open International Competitive Bidding preceded by
proqualification process.
Project’s Implementation:
The General Department of roads of The Ministry of Infrastructures, Transports
and Housing will be responsible for the execution and maintenance of the
project.
The physical implementation of the project is expected to start during the last
quarter of 2005 and takes about 24 months to be completed during the last
quarter of 2007, preceded by 15 months for the selection of the consultant,
preparation of prequalification documents, review of tender documents and
selection of the contractor for civil works.
