Project’s Name: Water Supply project for Kissoudougou, Beyla and Macenta
regions.
BADEA’s Financing:
A loan of US $ 8.4 million, to be repaid over a period of 30 years, including a
grace period of 10 years, and an annual interest rate of 1%.
Other Co- financiers:
The Government of Guinea (US $ 2.10 million).
Estimated Project Cost:
The total project cost was estimated at US $ 10.5 million, of which US $ 7.752
million is in foreign currencies.
Project Description:
The project is in the forest area, that covers the southern parts in the border
with Liberia, Côte d’Ivoire and Sierra Leone. The project covers three provinces
namely Kissoudougou, Beyla and Macenta. It involves construction of 620 wells
complete with hand pumps in addition to consultancy services. The project
includes also support of project implementation unit with necessary equipment.
Benefits and Justifications:
The project falls with the Government frameworks of national Programme for
provision of Drinking Water Supply in Rural Areas (2000-2015) and the National
Strategy for Rural Development. It is in accordance with the Poverty Alleviation
Strategy. It aims at reducing poverty and improving heath conditions through
provision of permanent and suitable drinking water.
Procurement of Goods and Services:
Drilling of wells and procurement of pumps will be on the basis of regional
bidding, for Arab, African and Arab-African firms in accordance with BADEA’s
procedures. The consult will be chosen through a short-list of Arab, Africa and
Arab-African consultants.
Project’s Implementation:
The Department of Water, Ministry of Water and Power will undertake the
implementation of the project which is expected to start mid 2006 to be
completed in 30 months (end of 2008). |
