BADEA’s Board of Directors Holds Its Second Meeting for the Year 2004

The Board of Directors of the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA), has approved in its session held during the period 9-11 June, 2004 loans and grants for some African countries.

The total amount of the approved financing is US$ 33.46 million, of which US$ 31.90 million are earmarked, as loans, for participation of 6 development projects and US$ 1.56 million are allocated for financing 8 technical assistance operations.

In view of the importance given by BADEA to encourage Arab contracts and consultancy firms to be involved in projects implementation of projects, preparation of studies and supervision of the execution of projects, the following are the approved operations:-

A) Projects:

1) The Republic of Benin: A loan of US $ 3.7 million to finance the construction of the mathematics and physics science institute in Badandjoubo.

2) The Republic of Cape Verde: A loan amounting to US $ 3.6 million to finance the construction of two secondary schools in Santiage Island project.

3) The Republic Kenya: A loan in an amount of US $ 5.0 million to finance a line of credit to the industrial development bank.

4) The Republic of Senegal: A US $ 8 million loan to finance rural water supply in N’diosmone - Palmarin Region.

5) The United Republic of Tanzania: A loan of US $ 9.6 million to finance Marangu-Tarakea-Kamwanga road project

6) The Republic of Rwanda: Additional loan amounting to US $ 2.0 million to finance the rehabilitation of three hydro power stations.


B) Technical Assistance Operations

1) Eritrea: A technical assistance grant in the amount of US $ 500 000 for the preparation of the feasibility study of Massawa-Assab Road Project.

2) Eritrea: A technical assistance grant amounting to US $ 85 000 to finance the institutional support to the national institute for agriculture research.

3) The Republic of Chad: A technical assistance grant amounting to US $ 270 000 to finance Institutional Support to the Faculty of Micro and Applied Sciences in the National University in N’djamena.

4) The Republic of Chad: A technical assistance grant in the amount of US $ 80 000 to finance the extension of the agriculture expert to support lake development company.

5) The Republic of Senegal: An additional technical assistance grant amounting to US $ 65 000 to finance the feasibility study for the construction of new airport in Dakar.

6) Regional: A technical assistance grant amounting to US $160 000 to finance a training session in the field of Maintenance of Textile Machinery Equipment for the benefit of Francophone African countries.

7) Regional: A technical assistance grant amounting to US $ 240 000 to support the Development Bank of the States of Central Africa.

8) Regional: A technical assistance grant amounting to US $ 160 000 to finance the cost of the participation of the Least Developed African countries in the Regional Conference on Micro-Financing in the Middle East and Africa.
