Exceptional Training at BADEA
Our Young Professional Programme is a three-year leadership development initiative offering unique apprenticeships, within various BADEA departments, to outstanding young graduates and professionals that are passionate about development and Arab-African cooperation.
This exceptional international working experience will equip them with strong leadership and technical skills to become top experts in the fields of financial analysis, investment, project finance, trade finance, risk management, internal audit, civil engineering, environmental management, legal, information technology, human resources management, strategy, and communications, among others.
Our unique programme also offers a secondment in a leading partnering development institution to provide valuable training courses, enhance knowledge sharing among similar multilateral development banks and encourage the adoption of a 360° view to address crucial African development challenges within a multilateral framework, in partnership with other stakeholders.
Duration
The duration of the programme is set at 36 months, spread over 5 periods as follows: 4 training periods of 6 months each.
Conditions for Admission to the Programme
To participate in this selective programme, youth must demonstrate a commitment to development, academic achievement, work experience and leadership. Eligibility is determined by the following criteria:
- Hold a Master’s degree or an engineering degree (5 years) from a reputable university with a minimum average grade point at the Master’s or equivalent level equal to:
- American university system (B+ or 3.5 degrees out of a total of 4 degrees)
- Arab university system (Very Good)
- British university system (Second Class Honours Upper Division)
- French university system (Good).
- Holders of Certificates of Expertise issued by international centres, such as (CFA/CPA/CMA).
- Holders of academic degrees similar to the Master’s or engineering degree (5 years) issued by reputable universities but which do not give an average or grade to their Master’s or Bachelor’s degrees or equivalent as in the Canadian and French systems of engineering education.
- Reference will be made to the appropriate candidate meeting the programme requirements in the following areas of specialisation: Financial Analysis, Investment, Trade Finance, Law, Civil Engineering, Information Technology, Risk Management, Internal Audit, Human Resources Management and Quality Management
- The age limit is set at 30 years (at the opening of the program).
- Proficiency in at least two of BADEA’s working languages which are: Arabic, English and French.
- Be a native of one of the countries participating in BADEA’s capital or one of the countries benefiting from its services.

Training, Development and Orientation
A mentor is designated for each young professional from the first week of the programme. The mentor is responsible for answering technical questions asked by the young professional as well as managing their expectations.
The young professional Programme will be based primarily on:
- On-the-job training
- In-company training
- Inter-company training
- Internships and visits to similar development institutions.
At the beginning of the programme, the young professionals attend orientation sessions to learn about the Bank’s activities. These sessions continue for between one and two months and are led by heads of departments and divisions, BADEA experts or external experts.
Each young professional will be assigned a training programme to be followed in detail and will include intra- and inter-enterprise training as well as practical training in the various departments of the Bank. Each training will be sanctioned by the establishment of a written report by the young professional.
A coach is designated in each department of the Bank to supervise and evaluate the young professional during their training.

Selection of Candidates
Applications accepted to join the YPP are subject to thorough evaluation and analysis.
In addition to interviews, there will be written tests, behavioural and psychomotor simulations and other forms of assessment and selection.
Successful candidates will be admitted to the programme within 6 months of the acceptance of their application.
Integration into BADEA's Structures at the
End of the Programme
The young professional’s commitment to occupy a position at BADEA will be determined after their success by the availability of vacancies at BADEA.
The following will be taken into consideration:
- The young yrofessional’s skills and experience prior to entering the programme.
- The evaluation of the young professional during the various stages of the programme.
- The young professional’s motivation.
